Vessel Hull Condition

When inspecting a vessel that has not had proper protection against the weather elements; if the floor feels solid, is it safe to assume the stringers are also in good condition? Is the floor typically the first to go in a rotten hull scenario? Besides pulling the floor for inspection, what indicators would one look for to help determine soft hull support?

Thank You

Re: Vessel Hull Condition

Boats usually rot from the bottom up. so, if the floor is rotted, it is a good sign of the rest being rotted. BUT the opposite does not hold true. The floor could still be solid, but you have rot working its way up the structure towards the floor.

You really have to look and poke around. Use a flashlight and a long narrow screw driver to poke at things. Dark areas imply rot at work. Look for cracks, standing water, saturated foam.
