Very little or no power to anything in the boat

Here's the next problem....

1989 4.3 OMC COBRA 1989 Four Winns Horizon.

When I first started working on the boat, I hooked up a brand new battery. Only the trim worked. Nothing in the panel would work nor would the engine crank. Was advised there was a 50A fuse to replace on top of the motor. Done - worked great for awhile.

Engine cranked fine as I tried to get it started. Cranked on it for awhile while trying different things to the engine. Suddenly it stopped cranking. When i tried to crank it it gave the familiar "click" of a dead battery.

I stuck the charger on the battery for awhile and then, with the charger still attached, I tried cranking it again. When I did I heard what sounded like a loud arc. No idea what happened or where it happened. All I know now is that when I hook up a 100% good battery to the system the panel does not work, the engine will not crank and the trim will not work. The only sign of life I get is a very low "whine" when I push a trim tab.

Anyone have an idea of where to start? I appreciate all the help so far and hope to have this thing purring soon after 3 years of being dormat in someone else's garage.

I would start with taking those connections off the battery and really clean and tighten them down good. After that it's time to get out the meter or test light and start checking. Use that wiring diagram I gave you the link for in your post. I would also check those 2 50 amp fuses although I have never seen anyone blow both together?

Update:

Took my battery to an auto store to get it tested, tested great.

All fuses check out including the 50a's on the engine.

Unfortunately the next time I will be able to dig into this is not until Friday.

Will get my test light ready and start from the battery and work my way up - thanks again for the great wiring diagram Bob.
