I'm a new boat owner and love my boat more than anything. Two weeks ago I took my boat to the Colorado River for the first time with my wife. We had a great day and finally decided that it was time to head home. I looked down at my fuel gage and it read a half tank, now it took me just over half tank to get down river. I decided not to stop for fuel......(big mistake) because I thought I could make it.
I pull up to he dock drop my wife off, turn off the motor, she runs and gets the truck with the trailer, backs it into the water. I start the boat up swing a U-turn from the dock begin my docking procedures into the trailer which is extremly difficult on the river due to the current. As I'm pulling in the motor dies.......and I start to drift away from the lunch ramp.........as I'm waving to my wife and wiping tears from my eyes I quickly decide to drop anchor. By the time the anchor locks into the river bottom I have floated about 50 yards down river. I think to my self now what the ***k em I going to do......I yell over to this passing sea Doer and ask this nice girl if she would mind towing me to the launch ramp. She replies " I'm really not comfortable with towing you but I think I can go and get you a fuel can from the beach we have some extra" I'm thinking okay that will work......10 minutes later she comes back riding her Sea Do looking extremly unsteady carrying a 5-gallon can of fuel. I'm thinking alright this is going to work great. As she is attempting to fight the current and pull up next to my boat I think let me stick my arm out and grab her Sea Do, this finally works after three attempts. As I'm holding her hand she attempts to pass the fuel can to me but the sea Do begins to get unsteady and starts to rock. I decide to jump on the sea do in the front facing her. This was a brillant idea until she began to pull forward and the nose of the Sea Do dips into the water and we both flip over in the river......now the girl, me, and the fuel can are floating down the river. I panicked and swam for the fuel can, as I grasp the fuel can holding on I realize that I have broken the "Cardinal Rule" and left my boat unattended an I'm now in the water. The girl get's back on the sea Do and procedes to come and get me....now in my mind this has turned from a boater out of gas, to a full blown "water rescue". The girl pulls up next to me I grap the rear handle on the Sea Do and proced to heave the fuel can back up on the Sea Do, as I do so I realize that the vent hole on the fuel can is missing and gas poars all over my face and into my eyes. At this point the can is on the Sea Do, my eyes are burning like hell. I then attempt to get on the sea Do but flip the girl over again because of the unsteady weight shift. The poor girl mounts the Sea Do again I heave the fuel can again on the Sea Do and decide to just let her pull me to my boat. Once I get to my boat I pulled my ladder down on the rear heave the fuel can on my swim step and procede to get out of the water. I thanked the girl to no end and appoligized endlessly. She shook her head and drives off. needlessly, I get back to the dock and my wife asked where the hell have I been everyone on the ramp was yelling at her because it was taking to long. I shook my head and explained what happened. I learned many valuable lessons that day.

See you on the river!
