I recently bought a used 1993 250. Engine had good compression and ran fine. I brought the engine home and it sat for a month on a stand while I finished the project boat. Today I was finally able to hang the engine. The controls and key switch are not on the boat yet but I was eager to start her up. I connected the battery cables and attempted to start engine by touching brown wire from solenoid to the nut on solenoid that goes to starter (nothing happened no power to brown wire). I have done this in the past with several other yamahas but not this particular model. The harness is disconnected are there any kill wires that I should be aware of or is starting in this manner using brown wire not an option for this engine. Throttle and shift cables are also not connected. Trim tilt on engine works fine so there is power there. What could cause no power at brown wire Going crazy please HELP 1993 L250txrr

Could my problem be a bad starter solenoid. Like I said trim tilt works and if I jump posts with screwdriver starter engages didn't hold screwdriver long enough to see if engine would start don't really like jumping like that I usually use the brown wire male end to the nut on starter side of solenoid. Is it common for a solenoid to go bad?

that motor wont start by simply cranking it, if it does its going to be very very difficult and will run nasty.
why dont ya finnish the project, do it once, do it right and have a good time with it.
the reason why it would not fire is simple electrical incompetence that may have been a good thing.
at rest the brown wire from the solinoid has no voltage applied, neither does the nut holding the wire going to the starter, starter motor power is drawn from the other nut going to the positive battery terminal.
