Very confused, how do I go to canada?

Hey there everyone, I am an American, and am planning on visiting Pelee Island on Sunday, but I am confused about how I go about doing this. on the CBSA website it informs me to report to them prior to entering canada, then it tells me to not report to the until I can report to them from a authorized marine reporting site. Do I pull up to the dock then then call someone from a special phone the Pelee marina has? or do I call on my cell phone before I arrive? Everyone will have the proper papers to visit Thanks!

If your going over by boat, id find a phone number for the imigration or customs office and ask them what to do before leaving, then get their name and badge number so you have some to say that they told you to do it this way.
Also listen and write down what they say, not saying you, but people in general have a tendency to hear something a little different than the first person says.
Write it down then read it back to them.

I used to drive truck into Canada alot and have never had any problems.

Well I called the CBSA earlier to find out if a Birth Certificate was good enough, but it took forever to get thru to speak to someone so thought maybe I would post here if maybe someone has done this before, I go thru canada by car quite often, just not sure how to do it by boat in the right order

You must have a passport to reenter the US. Peelee Island has a port of entry at the airport, call them. No guns allowed in Canada.

Well I am just going back to my launch site so I dont think a passport will be necessary, im bringing one however of course.

Just returned, Erie during a windstorm isnt the best place for a 19 footer, but we survived, for futeure reference for anyone that might look this up,its exactly as it says, when you dock, just either use a payphone or your cell phone and call the toll free number and they ask questions then your all set to go, have you registration with you, along with the hull ID number, and paper and pen to write down the number they give you to attach it to the side of the boat, along with flying your nations flag. Although they didnt ask for any papers, im assuming its still best to bring them, possibly if you get stopped by the US coming home

Glad you made it there and back ok! I've been wanting to get up to lake Erie and have a 19' runabout myself. So when you say it wasn't ideal, do you mean dang near capsizing, or just a little rough?

Also, can you give me some useful info about the trip? Where did you start? Did you swing by PIB or Kelley Island? How fast were you running? How long did it take to get over there?

After checking into Canada you are required to check back into US. Some don't...... Glad to see you made the trip and kept the dirty side down. How was your expierence?

Well the trip and experince were a little eventfull, I started off at South River road launch, which is in the mouth of the Clinton River in Lake St. Clair, took St. Clair thru the Detroit river, then straight across to Pelee Island, About 100 miles I beleive. My capri has a 30 gallon tank, and I brought along an extra 10 gallons which I threw in when I got there, and was needed as once I was back it was almost empty. went about 25 thru St. Clair and Detroit river, but Erie was a different story, there were high swells, and speed varied as I needed to drive up the waves. got very soaked going there since the bow was taking on water. Took about 5 hours, went to Scudders marina and docked along the wall where it is free and spent a couple hours on the Island going to the winery and eating. There is much more to do, but didnt have the time. If you go, make sure to either bring bikes, or call Moe the Island taxi to bring you to your destinations or to the bike rental shop. Trying to go home was a differeent story, the coil wire was loose (didnt know it at the time) and the boat wouldnt start, and Boat US refused to tow me, (when I got back I ended up speaking to the president of the company, in fear of a lawsuit since they violated their agreement they gave me the unlimted gold for free) so I got stranded on the island until morning when I found the problem. I was not aware that I needed to check back in with the US, next time I suppose I will do that, I didnt bring anything with me anyways. going home there was a high wind warning, and 4-6 foot waves, but with good captain skills the 19 footer made it back, just gotta keep the boat at a decent plane and just take the pounding abuse otherwise going to slow and youll end up taking on water. Next time I will spend a couple 3 days exporing the other erie islands, and hopefully next time I will have my 21 foot sportcraft project finished, or a larger boat, id say the 19 footer can do it obviously, but with those large waves a bit bigger boat would be nice

Sounds eventful, 89cruisers. Glad you were safe and handled the journey well. Since you are planning another trip, I would say you had a good expierence. Maybe see you motoring to FL someday.

Where is Delaware? Heard of it, Can't find it. Not really. Was there for the first time a couple weeks ago, the Admiral is from there. Hung a rag for the first time in the river. I know.....off subject.

If you see a guy speaking french, then you've reached Canada.

HAHAHA!...but in reality, I had to travel south from where I live to reach pelee island. It is located a little bit south west of Point Pelee Ontario, its the largest island in lake erie, and canada's most souther inhabited point. And actually this winter me and my bud Phil (F14crazy) are trying to plan a florida keys trip.

And that is? I've been to Canada once. I couldn't find Sergant Prestion to save myself. I liked the area we went to but I couldn't find a mounty on horse back in those red outfit's ,they all had those NY style caps that made them look like taxi driver's.We had a PT Cruiser show at the falls and they were driving PT's as well. We had a great time with them .WE had almost 500 PT's at the falls not counting the Mounty's cars.
