It is that time again, having to pick a cell phone provider.
We have had xingular for the past 4 years and we are reasonably happy with the reception in our area, but verizon is fully compatable on this front.Lately we had all sorts of creative billing by xingular. For instance text messaging and internet pay for telephones that do not have the mechanical capability for these features.I guess they want to find out whether i am a sucker or not.
In short, the question is.Who is better in your opinion and why.And is it just me xingular tries to take for a ride or is it a more common complaint?

I was in Alaska last summer, just outside the entrance of Denali National Park... basically as remote as you can get in the United States... and I had 5 bars with Cingular.

I've been happy with Cingular and will most likely stay with them. They have rollover minutes and no roaming. Plus, like I said earlier, the coverage area is gigantic.

Re: Verizon versus Xingular.

I had Cingular for the last two years.......had nothing but problems. Recieved no reception in my house and very spotty reception in the immediate area (5miles). I was told my phone was at fault, but the only way to fix the problem was get a new one AND resign a 2 yr contract. If I wanted to cancel out of the one I had it was a $200 or so charge. I patiently waited out my contract and switched to Verizon. Now I have had no issues whatsoever and near perfect reception. I'm sure there are stories that tell the same story but vise versa. I would talk to people you know in the area and see how their services work.

I had verizon and it was the opposite of pony, they kept jacking up the price for no reason,i could'nt get reception at the house and my messages at times would be 3 days late.so we switched to cingular and i get 5 bars everwere so far and the roll over minutes are nice too and these new phones have the push to talk so the wife and all our friends can talk as long as we want for $25 a month, not that i use it as much as my wife :)im being nice here  and also nites are free from7 till 7,verizon is from9 till5 or something like that.
I think alot of it is in the phones the higher price ones arent necessarly the best ones.

I don't know about Verizon, but I had to switch to Cingular because the former service was inadequate (Qwest - the coverage area was full of holes).

I can call out from all over Colo & Wyo with Cingular, and rarely even need to hook up my Smooth Talker (booster).

Cingular - in my basement - 4 bars...

Re: Verizon versus Xingular.

Are any of you guys still have the non-GSM phone? that might be the problem. EVDO huh? no wonder why some of the guys (verizon subscribers) in my department have reception in the basement and I don't. I'll still stick to cingular tho, there are no argument as far as who have the largest coverage area and number of cell towers. Cingular is the king right now.

I have had both and have no complaints from either.

I switched to Verizon 3 months ago cause they had a cool phone with internet for 200 bucks.

Vcast is only 15 bucks a month, Cingular is much more expensive.

I can check e-mails, surf the web, and get live radar and traffic. Also has the phone book, maps, directions, etc.

Check out the VG9800, its a good deal.

Ken

Re: Verizon versus Xingular.

It all depends on who has a tower in your aera!!!
Cingular has the most in the U.S. Like I said it is all in where you live or make the most calls. Some people never make cell phone calls from home. You have to watch all companys bill's they can stick it to you if you don't be careful and read the bill.... If both have towers in your aera go with who has the best calling plan for you...
I myself have been with cingular for many years (5 or more) With no problem. Also costomer service with cingular has been great that can matter to some people to I don't know how the other companys are. Good Luck
Can you hear me now, can you hear me now Hello,Hello, Bye, Tim

Re: Verizon versus Xingular.

Never had Cingular so I have no opinion there. I have had Verizon for many years and have no complaints. It has very good coverage and has even improved from earlier poor reception in my home.

They have never played games with any of my billing and their plans seem competitive. I have a family plan with 4 phones and 2500 minutes for a total, including Algore taxes of 199$/mo. I have no text or picture services.

Re: Verizon versus Xingular.

The last set of "free" phones that we got came with a two year contract extension ."Ooops, didn't you read the fine print? It's $200, PER PHONE, for early termination."

We'll be DUMPING that service, the millisecond that those two years are up! (I'm counting the months...)
