The paperwork for my new to me boat from the factory authorized dealer says the engine is a 350 mag EFI. It was replaced in 2002 and have the paperwork showing almost $8k to do it. Is there any way to tell if it truly is a 350 mag? The cover says 5.7 EFI. It has the Bravo one drive which seems weird behind a normal 5.7. The serial is 0f791070 but not sure if that is the original or replacement. I am trying to find the correct manual ( I have them all ) and make sure I get the right parts when needed.

Re: Verify engine model.

That serial number comes back like this:

Serial Number: 0F791070
Model number: 457B111JS
Model version: 5.7L TBI BRAVO
Engine year: 1996

This engine, although TBI (Not MPI), is not a Magnum, but it was supplied as a Bravo engine.

If it was a Magnum, the cover would say so!

Hope this helps...

Re: Verify engine model.

Serial No: 0F791070 MERCRUISER TBI, W/PS, TWO PC EX, 5.7L TBI BRAVO (5.7L TBI H.P. (1996) Model No: 457B111JS

Since you found the 0F791070 number on the top cover, that would indicate this to be the original serial number.

If you have another new engine from mercruiser, then the new serial number should be located just above the engine starter on a little metal tag possibly starting with an 0M being an 2002.

If it's a Merc remanufactured engine, then it may be a different number that is not able to be identified by a Mercruiser dealer or online. The only way to have it identified would be by calling Mercruiser customer support in the U.S.

Re: Verify engine model.

I did get the serial number from the top cover. I will check if there is another serial tomorrow. All of the invoiced that are after the engine replacement are the ones that say 350 MAG EFI.

Re: Verify engine model.

There may be a metal plate down by the starter motor with a serial number on it. If the engine has been swapped and the old cover put on the new engine....
