vented or non

Hi All

I read on one website that my 74 9.9 Evinrude is to run the gas tank with the vent CLOSED. I have a feeling that it is to run with the vent OPEN.
WHICH IS IT????

open, fuel pump cannot suck out of a vacuum.

Even the tank caps that have no screw vent are indeed vented (if working properly)

Must be vented so there is no vacuum.
