Vent and Fill screws - Mercury and Evinrude

Just wondering...is there any issue using the new Evinrude lower unit vent/fill screws on a 1980 Mercury outboard? I don't live near a Mercury parts shop and I can't see how they are any different except for the fact you need a little hex wrench.

I also notice they have a white plastic(I assume vinyl) washer instead of rubber. Any reason to be concerned with this?

I have interchanged the plugs and gaskets in a pinch. The J/E gaskets are a tad larger and don't alwasys fit in the hole. Also, for some reason, the Merc ones fit better into the Merc hole.
