These cable companies are $*@%. I schedule the technician to come this morning from 8-11 to fix my cable. I get an automated call this morning around 7 stating the terms of the visit and how long it will take. Having heard this spill several times ,because they have to come fix something every couple of months, I hang up. Turns out at the end of the message it requires me to press 1 to confirm 2 to reschedule or 3 to cancel. I missed that part so the technician never came.

All I want is to get what I pay for, nothing more nothing less.

Anyone else have difficulities with cable providers.

Re: Vent a little.

I used to have problems and had to get them out here about once a month. Finally, one of the techs ran new cable from the utility pole to my house and installed a small signal booster in my basement (at no cost to me). That took care of 99% of my problems. I have my TV, phone and internet through the cable co. Every once in a while my phone quits working and I have to reset my modem. Other than that, have not had any real problems in about 3 years.

I usually listen to the entire automated message, haven't had any problems. The cable did go out last night, but was working again this morning.

Re: Vent a little.

Comcast is good about actually having someone call us when they go to come over.. Havent got the auto message yet. LOL last month they sent someone out (at OUR expense) to tell us why our internet was not working. Hadnt worked apparently in 30 days (we were over the road drivers then and just coming home for good when we realized it was messed up) so they labled it as a failed self install (wtf? even though it worked before??). So after looking at it for 30 minutes the guy goes outside pretty quiet like and after about 45 mins comes back in and BAM the internet was working. A tech had actually cut through our line when servicing someone elses. After arguing for a while finally got him to not charge us and to give us a month free. And even then comcast service is so spotty im calling once a week to complain about the service going out.

Re: Vent a little.

EDIT

I just recently switched to Verizon for all my home services and aside from the initial install screwup, everything is good.

I will say I was a little upset when I took half a day off work and the tech. did not show. They said they had no work order for our install. They made it right.

If you had any idea of how many service company appointments are no-shows....by the resident who booked the call, you might not be so critical.
They did not hang up on you....

Re: Vent a little.

Every time we have an outage at our house (ever year or every other year) the Comcast guy comes out, fiddles around in our outside box and replaces a bunch of connectors and what not and always says "I have no idea how this ever worked". They also commonly replace our cable modem and always say "these were junk".:facepalm::facepalm:

Re: Vent a little.

I fixed the cable problems once and for all - I disconnected it! Did that after I got the second price increase in less than 1 year.

Went with Dish. A $600/year savings. Yes I said six hundred. The installer came out right on time - even after calling 10 minutes before to say he was almost there. Did it professionally in short order. The best thing was he installed the equipment and ran the lines the way I wanted it, not his way.

The service is better, the quality better, there are more channels....oh yeah did I mention the $600. (no contract, price guaranteed for 2 years)

Re: Vent a little.

I'm with Jim. We "cut the cable" many years ago and never looked back after we finally got fed up with the constant rate increases. We had Directv forever. We got it back before they worked things out with the local providers and we had to pay $75 for a little antenna so we could get our in town channels. Gosh that was a long time ago. A year and a half ago I finally gave in to the Uverse sales pitch and have been pretty happy with it. My only complaint with Directv was the signal loss in bad weather, which is an unavoidable issue with satellite TV. I know not everyone has access to Uverse, but if anyone's considering it I'd say it's not a bad deal.

Re: Vent a little.

So, the technitian just left the house. He spoke more badly than I did about his company! He also informed me that employees get 50% off services and he still is with another provider for all of his services.

As WLG stated
"EDIT: 4. Attacks (bashing) on any person, organization, company or other entity will not be permitted. Reporting experiences with any vendor, website or organization must be limited to facts. Unqualified attacks will be considered bashing. "

I have not said the company name, they are all pretty much the same.

Right with you on that. I recently upgraded to double my DSL speed. Real flaky at best and the speed dropped lower than the old speed. Tech came out and re-wired some Telco phone lines and a new modem, he left the old modem for a backup. I stacked it up with all the other "back=up" modems they left behind from all the calls since I moved here 6 years ago. Then the other day No DSL. Call them up and go through the 50 question script and says a tech will be out. After about 2 hours no tech or call and the DSL works again. No explanation from them. I have Windstream and they want me get DishTV through them. Don't think it will happen even though WS is only the dealer.

Anyone else have difficulities with cable providers.

Too many problems and too much money so I went back to the old antenna and TV tower with a rotor. That was 17 years ago.

Today I receive ALL HD signals from the local broadcasters for free. I get 13 channels that provide content for all the major networks. Most things that I can't pickup over the air I can get now online and play it thru my computer on the TV. I figure in the past 17 years I've saved at least $10,000 and probably much more. No more cable or satellite interruptions for me :D.

I'm constantly harassed by the local cable company trying to sell me their service. The 50ft tower kind of stands out in the neighborhood :).

I know a ton of people that watch everything online either with netflix, hulu, vudu, etc etc and don't have cable. Personally I have a cable modem and directv.

Re: Vent a little.

I have had DirecTV since they bought out my previous satellite company, about 13 years ago. Upgraded twice; now all HD. Had one problem about 6 years ago, they sent me a new receiver.

Except for the weather outages the best picture and the best service on the best channels. I had forgotten what a pain cable often is.

Re: Vent a little.

We have all three with 1 provider...TV, phone and internet. One day we lose all three, then the TV and internet come back but no phone. So my wife drives down the street (long story on cell phone) to use the cell to call the C..cast service to report the phone being out. The lady on the phone kept demanding a home phone number even after my wife told her multi-times.... "Why do you need my home phone number for the service tech to call before coming out if my home phone is not working???!!!!" This went on for over 5 minutes, my wife told me that the lady asked 5 times for the number and each time my wife explained that that was the reason why she was calling on her cell phone and that we don't get cell phone reception at our house so she couldn't provide that number either. My wife works from home for a business so she needs the phone working and she explained that the the lady... I need someone to come out today to fix this because I work from home. OK, we'll get it on the schedule. When our phone finally was working, my wife called them back, when this lady found the work order, it was scheduled for 4 days from now!!!! Unbelivable service!!

I've heard nothing but bad stuff about Comcast service - we switched to Verizon; it's been good except for the comercials. Remember when cable started - comercial free! My next door neighbor has direct - he likes it except for windy wheather, and big snow.

we have one of those big oval dishes and it's got to be quite a storm to rain fade us any more, it maybe happens once a year. about 3 times a year I have to brush snow off it and when it gets around 0F it hiccups but I just need to call them and have them replace the LNB or something, guess it's an easy fix
