I just aquired an old Chrysler inboard belhousing with velevet drive and a halibrand vdrive. Both came out of the same boat. The velvet drive is still attached to the chryslr 318 poly engine belhousing, the Numbers on the chrysler bellhousing tag are 318CWL10-334.
The velvet drive I believe is a borg warner, (at least by carefully comparing to pictures it apears to look identical to a BW 71C). Number on the tag is 4636, and the casting numbers are WG Div 71B-1. is that a Borg warner 71-B? Is it a vaible unit that parts and service info are available for?
The second is the Halibrand Vdrive, on which I found a stamped number 528047 AC . And on the top cover plate I found cast number halibrand B-260. No other tag found on it.
I am in the dark on what this stuff is, but i do know that it did in fact run and drive until the engine cover was left off in the rain resulting in ultimate rust siezure of the engine. (had a fresh rebuilt engine in there too). Anyway both drive units were always covered. Both drives were full of clean fluid, and upon draining found no metallics or water.
Trying to see if all or any of it is worth bringing back to life, part it, or just scrap it.
