Here in VT we have many vehicle vs wildlife Moose, bear deer turkeys etc but today's was special :)

A brand new Chevrolet Sonic, you know the cute high mpg ones vs Doe. The doors are dented, all the body panels down one side were dented, the mirror torn off oh and the dear......looked startled and went away without a scratch. I was hoping the deputy I dispatched would return with some fresh venison.......nope!

It's actually the first one we have had where the deer survived and the entire side of the 4 door car was damaged. :) Ummmmm no Chevy Sonic for me!

Many moons ago, I was working in the oilfields of West Texas, Not to far out of High School, Was coming home after a long day on the lease, just about dusk i hit a deer. Did about $300 worth of damage to my truck, Deer was still alive but injured. Reached behind me, got my 30.06 out of the rack, and proceeded to put the deer in my freezer. Didnt even get it loaded before the Rabbit Ranger was there, Confiscated my deer, gave me a ticket for the incident, and i still had to fix the truck. I heard that the county's guest had deer steak that night. Was just my luck that year.

Well the normal routine is for a wrecker when a moose is hit and then Fish and Game winches the carcass up into the truck (yes on occasion 2 wreckers one for the moose), we recently had a fatal of a cow vs car :( but this one chalks up a solid win for the deer population. I also had a report of a bear cub that was "tapped" and I advised the driver to drive away. They wanted to go look to see if they killed the cub. I gave them a choice to drive away and live or be mauled by an angry mother bear. They drove away.

Here in SW Michigan we have the nations highest accident rates for auto vs deer. With a deer population of approximately 1.3 to 1.7 million depending on the year, and a majority living in the southern counties it can make for interesting driving. I have tagged 7 over the years, 3 bump and runs and 4 I've put in the freezer without a gun. 2 of the keepers totaled the vehicle from the insurers stand point.

I could fill my freezer by just waiting by the roadside about a half mile from the house. Every year I see 4 to 5 hits in the same place. Just don't have the time to sit in one place all day long. Maybe after I retire I could do that when not sitting by the local launch.:D
