I'm getting ready to apply this over a fresh 4 coats of Interlux 2000E. Does anyone know why it is suggested or common to sand the VC after the final coat? Does it not go on smoothly? What would sanding this final coat actually acheive?

I'm also planning to use the roll/tip method. Not sure if that is a good method for this particular product or not.

Makes you go faster!

Contrary to what you'd think a shinny hull is slower through the water due to surface tension.

By sanding/ burnishing the finish you eliminate that.

Interesting. I've heard this before, but seems contradictory to why others are sanding, from what I hear. The folks I see applying this stuff seem to say they are sanding it to get it really smooth. In this case, would wet sanding be the best option, or is that really the only option to acheive the goal here?

Re: VC Performance Epoxy

I applied it and did NOT sand it. I used a sprayer and probably didn't thin it enough. It left an "eggshell" texture to it.

I know some racing guys wet-sand it to a very high gloss and smooth as can be, but I didn't need it.

Here's a picture of 3 coats on my hull... You can see the "before/after" as well as the texture:

Dukes, Thanks for the great pics and info. I guess I might just leave it unsanded. I'm obviously not going to race my 21' cuddy. I'm wondering if I attempt to roll and tip that it might come out smoother. Although, you said you sprayed and still got the texture. Hmmmmm.
