I've owned my boat 8 years and the boat ran well up until about 3 years ago. We had aprox 250 hours on the engine when I started having problems. The boat would always run great the frist time in the AM. We would run the engine hard for 1-2 hours pulling kids on tubes and then let the boat sit for 1-2 hours for lunch. On the second time out the engine would start up but after going to full throttle the engine would die and then we were DOA for about 30-40 minutes. Sounds like classic vapor lock but wanted to see if anyone had similar issues with their Volvo Penta, 5.0 GL engine. This engine has a carburetor and is not fuel injected. I always use premium fuel 91 octane. Any suggestions besides running the blower for 1-2 hours? Thanks in advance!

I have the same engine the same age which I purchased used last June. It has the same exact behavior. I just picked it up from an authorized Volvo Service Center and they describe it as vapor lock. They suggest I leave the throttle in neutral wide open while it sits, then return to vertical position before starting. My wife is so gunshy she wants me to do the testing solo. I guess no one replied to your post. Wouldn't you like someone from Volvo to respond? I found a thread regarding a Mercruiser that does the same thing. One guy offered this service bulletin:

Tell me where you are with your problem.

Welcome to iboats ski nut, you need to start a new thread with your post (per the announcement at the top of the forum) no since asking the original poster, he hasn't even been back to the forum since he posted his question.
