I have a Mercruiser Model 5.0L (2-BBL) 1998-95 GM 5.0L - 305ci - 8cyl, Engine S/N OL045552.

I recently upgraded to Fuel Injection, and trying to work out the bugs.
My Vent Hose - Valve Cover Fitting To Flame Arrestor is putting out excessive smoke.

What can cause this?

Worn piston rings is a good place to start. Check compression, if oil and pressure are slipping by the rings the crankcase will smoke..

You have to find how excessive compression gases are getting into the block, rings are most likely but a hole in the piston would suffice..

The oil is not milky, nor can I smell fuel, but it is now over full. I'm guessing fuel. How does that happen? I'm going to change the oil, and see if the smoking goes away.

see post 7 might take the injectors out and see if they are dribbling after shutdown

What fuel injection did you put on ? was it an aftermarket kit like sniper etc ? or did you do an oem take off ?

Do the sparkplugs look rich fouled?

The system is provided by pfisys.com. I'll check the other items you suggested.

I would start by contacting them. I am not familiar with them but you could have a bad pressure regulator or injectors not sealing.

Why did you swap it out ? not trying to be argumentized just curios

I have spent over a year trying to fix an intermittent flooding problem, and had multiple suggestions to convert. From my early testing, I'm happy with the conversion, except this issue. Cost was $1200, and very easy as a DIY.

I've seen their stuff before. Would be interested to see if you have issues with O2 sensor longevity.

I had looked at their O2 sensor plate when I wanted to adapt my AFR meter from my GTO to the boat.

AEM who makes the meter doesn't recommend leaving the O2 sensor in place continuously, only for tuning... they say due to the mositure in the exhaust it smokes the sensors relatively quickly.

Let us know how you make out after you get through the kinks. If your level is rising in the oil would solve this quickly as the fuel can wash the piston rings and then you get leakdown...

Thanks for the comments and advice. Are you saying I could remove the O2 sensor and plug the hole?

You can't as the FI needs the O2 sensor.

If you are just running a Air Fuel ratio meter and using that for carb tuning like me yes you can remove when you aren't messing with jets .

excessive fuel in the oil.
oil too thin for the motor.
engine running too hot in the cylinders ,IE pistons cooking because of lean condition > check spark plugs for lean burn .

worn out old motor :) .

that's all i have .

pull dip stick and check for water in oil.
