Any idea what these go for?
Beautiful motor with electric start and remote.
The motor was boat tested and in very good running condition.
The seller, a hobby mechanic says he will bypass the VRO.

does it have trim n tilt, or just tilt assist. i have the same motor. the market is down, but they were around $1,000 with tilt assist, and 1,200 with trim n tilt.

yea, he said $1200 for Tilt & Trim, and he would install on my boat and lake test with me.

edit: with a foot controller for Tilt & Trim as well.

thanks.

Hey TD,
hope you don't mind me asking, but
what kind/size of boat are you pushing with it?

thanks,

this 14'6 glass fisherman. the boat is rated for a 65, but i don't want to be in it with a 65hp. i have since taken it off the market.

Those values seem about right. I looked at a '92 Alumacraft Crappie Pro last year with I believe the same motor, one year older. They were asking 2995 for the rig and got full price.

Re: value of '93 Johnson 40hp VRO

Oh, Ok. I remember you posting about the price on this one. Nice setup IMO.

I'm still trying to decide on the motor. If I keep my little 25hp. If any problems ever arise, I can easily swap it and keep on fishing. That won't be so easy to do if I go with a 40hp with T&T. I thought about getting a 35hp motor and just keep the 25hp as backup (but run it occasionally).

I guess part of me wants to keep a simple setup. Light motor, rope start, manual tilt, no battery, etc.
But my boat would benefit from the extra power the 40hp provides. 400lb. boat, plus added weight from plywood flooring. It's rated up to a 50hp.

Anywho, thanks for your input and allowing me to ramble on.

i actually had an 1988 50 on that boat, before the 93 40. i can tell very little difference between the 2 motors being on it. i've been helping a local member with is 88 25hp, found it harder to work on the the newer 40's and 50's. they are the same block.

I have an '89 40 w/ t&t, no vro, tiller model for about 5 years & so far it's been a terrific motor. I got mine from a relative & payed less than market value, so I can't help you there.
It starts fairly easily once you figure out the system as described on iboats often. It's easy on gas & runs strong. The only minor complaint is that it idles on the rougher side when crabbing, but it doesn't stall and has always started.

Re: value of '93 Johnson 40hp VRO

I plan to close the deal tomorrow on the 40hp. The seller is a hobby mechanic and he sold me the 25hp a month or so ago. He will credit me the full price paid for the 25hp.
I think I'll be better off with more ponies and newer motor.
edit: not to mention added perks like electric start, tilt&trim.
Thanks for you input.
