Value of 1973 Mercury 20hp?

I have finished repair work on this engine and I am giving serious thought to selling it and buying something newer. What would you estimate the value of a 1973 Mercury 20hp, stainless steel prop, in excellent mechanical condition and good physical appearance?<br /><br />I have another 1973 Merc 20 that I bought for parts (with the original engine) but have not needed it for parts so it is still intact. I don't know anything about it because I've never started it. The guy I bought it from said it had a bad lower unit.<br /><br />If I put them on EBay, what would be a fair value for each one?<br /><br />Thanks for thinking about this.

My limited experience tells me that an old motor like this is just like an old pickup truck, it is worth more to you than anybody else. If you are going to sell it on ebay, put the parts motor in on the deal. Figure out what you spent on buying and rebuilding it, and hope for maybe 80% of that. Some motors do better than others on ebay, and for the life of me I can't figure out why. <br />I wish you the best of luck. Let us know when you put it up for auction.

If in good over condition...I'll bet you can get between $350-$450 for it. <br /><br />I've been watching the classifieds here in Portland, Or. for many months in search of a similar engine. That's about the going price here...<br /><br />Walt
