Has any one any experience with the health buddy system through the VA. I have been struggling with diabetes for many years and have been managing it with diet and exercise but over time it just hasn't been enough and due to concerns that the pills can be causing other problems I was maxed out on thier dosages I finely gave in and stated on insulin shots and so far it hasn't been any where near as bad as I thought it was going to be. Yesterday I received a box full of stuff from them, its a network plug in device that will send them my sugar reading along with weight and blood pressure readings it came with a weight scale and a cuff set up that I believe hooks up to the device and I haven't completely looked into it. Just wondering if any one else has this.

Re: VA health buddy system

After diet, exercise and being put on about 5 different types of oral meds I have finally been put on insulin as well.

When I was diagnosed I had an A1C of 15.6 I started exercise and diet which brought me down to 10.2 they started me upping my doses when it leveled off there.

I go in about two weeks for my first A1C since I have been using Lantus. My sugars have been down quite a bit but aren't where they should be yet.

I hope it works out well for you Hawker

My dad passed on from complications from diabetes a few years back, stupid thing is if he had only changed his life style habits (diet and exersice) when he was first diagnosed he would probably still be with us.
Pick up a copy of a diabetes cook book, great ideas in them.
And do not forget breakfast, for you that is the most important meal of the day to get your sugar under control.

Sorry about your DAd rbh, lost mine for the same reason in 04.

Definitely breakfast is the most important(no more pancakes with ponds of sweet sweet syrup).
