Have 1994 GLERA150 20" shaft V6, at 2000K rpms have erratic chatter in the lower unit (or it appears to be the lower unit from listening while underway) Engine runs strong and smooth, so not suspecting powerhead.

question is, what elements of LU may cause this?? worn driveshaft/pinion bearing, propshaft bearing..worn drive gears, incorrect shift linkage adjustment?? Do not have unusual amounts of shavings on magnetic drain plug.

Also, could a failing reed valve cause this? I expect the engine would run poorly if a reed valve has developed a crack....

have river tested w/ outboard mechanic buddy and he also suspects LU issue. Tips and advice appreciated.
