My 1984 V4 140hp crossflow engine block corroded badly, leaked water into one cylinder and caused damage beyond repair.

My local dealer had a fully rebuilt 115hp motor forsale. He says the blocks are very similar and that his replacement 115 popwerhead fitted with my 140hp carbs should perform almost as well as the 140hp ever did.

The new 115 hp block has a flat cover in the valley of the V. But my old 140hp block had a big bubble or bulging mountain shaped cover plate in the V Valley.

What is the diffence and is this really 115hp block? or was my old motor really a 140hp (I have only assumed it was a 140 because of the cowling stickers said so).

Is there any other way to tell? and is it OK to fit my old carbs to the new block?

Re: V4 Johnson 140hp Crossflow

i have a 1989 110 hp evi wich has a bubbleback and i also have a 1990 115 bubble back.

i cant find big difference in performence between these two.

and i doubt changing carbs and exhaust will boost your 115 up 35 hp.

you can try it sounds like fun.
so how would my 115 bubbleback do with 140 carbs???
i dont think it will change much.

i think if you want more power get a 6 cylinder.

good luck

If I fit by 140hp bubble back plate on the 115 powerhead along with my 140hp carbs, then will the motor perform just like the 140hp motor did, or is there more to it than this?

Looking on the parts lists for these 2 engines on Ishopmarine, the heads are different as well. Assume the 140 heads are higher compression, but just guessing.
