since i don't have a test tank, for the high rpm portion, what about lashing it down to the trailer good and tight, backing her in to at least anti-cav plate depth, chocking the trailer tires, and letting her rip?

or is there another less dramatic, shadetree mechanic way?

FWIW, it's a '75 "bubbleback" 135hp on a light, 16' performance vee hull.

There is a test prop...... used in place of the prop that gives no thrust. You see them on ebay ;) I would not want to tie my boat down and stress the transom, motor, trailer, etc

LOL reminds me of something I did once. The truck I had was slipping on the ramp and the tires were just smoking. There were a bunch of boats waiting and I got impatient. I told my son who was in the truck that I would put the motor back in the water and use the boat motor to help push the truck up the ramp. When I said go we both hit the throttle at the same time. Worked like a charm except there was a boat behind me and when my prop came up out of the water all passengers on that boat got an unwanted bath. Boy were they pi$$ed.

I watched an OMC service tech time two different engines sitting on a trailer at the ramp with only the lower unit in the water. Just make sure the water pickup holes stay underwater.
