Hi, I have a 78 Johnson 115hp. on an 82 Ranger bass boat that I've been fixing up a bit. I was finally able to get to the lake today for a test run. A few months ago I put a new remote control and cables on the boat but haven't had the time to get on the water. The motor had not been run for more then a minute or two after replacing the water pump and t-stats, to make sure there was water flow and no leaks. I knew she'd be hard to start because I recently went through the fuel system (emptied n cleaned aluminum tank, replaced separator/filter, fuel lines etc). After cranking the motor several times I went ahead and used the manual choke and she started up and ran good...But while i was cranking the motor over there was a steady stream of water coming through the telltale. That seemed unusual to me because the motor wasnt actually running yet. I've replaced impellors in lots of different outboards so I'm confident I didn't mess that up. The thermostats were a first for me, though. And even though I followed the factory service manual, they were still a bit tricky to replace...

Normal to see water from tell tale after lots of cranking.-----There is no reason for the motor to be " hard to start " after carburetor work.-----Time for some trouble shooting.-----Post your compression values.
