V4 140 with damaged ID plate… hmmm… what year?

Hi all.
Bought a used boat with an Evinrude 140hp V4 (“looper”?). Just don’t know what year it is; the ID plate is scratched at the very end. Is there another way to tell? I can post pics of anything that someone feels might be a clue.
I just need to know the year so I can order parts.

look on the motor for the serial number in the welsh plug
