Re: v-drive knowledge

are these crusader engines?? mercruiser??

the v-drive is separate from the transmission, most v-drive assemblies are pretty tough

transmissions on the other hand - 50/50

you need to look at the WHOLE boat, granted the engines/drives are an important part, but take the whole picture into consideration

if you are seroius about buying it, have a FULL mechanical inspection done

you wouldn't buy a house without an inspection, would you??

One drawback of a V drive is the lack of trim function. It's like an I/O or O/B running trimmed full "in" all the time.

A "pro" is less drag; no bullet shaped outdrive. Just a shaft support, shaft & prop, plus rudder.

which is why most larger boats with straight inboard/v-drives are equipped with trim tabs

V-drives are simple and pretty much bullet proof. Their run in most drag boats under high horsepower conditions. In a cruiser like a Trojan they give the ability to have the engines all the way to the rear for more open space through out the mid section. Borg-Warner does make a transmission and v-drive all together in one unit. Transmissions are very strong and used in all higher horsepower applications as compaired to shifting being done with in an out drive or lower unit. They also shift in and out of gear smoothly and quitely.
