V-4 vro bypass old school?

Just bought a Evinrude 1988 v-4 110 hp, wanted the motor, thought the VRO was just taken off or stolen but noticed someone had connected a cooper tube to the fuel like a horseshoe jumper line im thinking someone just did not have a fuel pump and went old school ever see this before? Would that have worked? Maybe be just keep the ball pumped? A small gas tank seemed to replace the origin. ?

I see not a picture.-----Motor has to have a fuel pump.----Look for that pump.

Wont let me upload a photo says it exceeds limit but just a phone picture! Yea no fuel pump but now not sure if it wuld have been a vro or stand alone pump! Parts on marine parts page for 1988 110 Hp dont show VRO but its on hood but it could be different hood! So not sure if i can just install a new fuel pump and be done!

Correction the parts page for that year does not show VRO

The 110 HP left the factory with VRO !!----So what is your model #.----And what is the problem with the motor ?

Are you saying there's no fuel pump on the outboard? Or a vro pump with the oil side looped? I need pics.

Yep someone took it off or it went bad and they rigged a pipe on it i will be putting a real fuel pump on it dont need the vro. I understand there should be a port by the starter front to add one in.

Correct there are 2 holes to mount the 1983 style pump with a gasket and 2 screws.-----Or a pump listed for an 88 HP model for many years.-----Remove plug for pulse port between mounting screws.-----Plug pulse port for VRO pump

That is what I did to my '86 110hp Evinrude.

I used a fuel pump from an 88spl came with gasket.

Removed the plug from engine that blocked the hole that will operate the 88spl pump. There are mounting holes that the 88spl pump. But you will have to get screws. On mine the center screw that holds the nipple where you attach the out fuel line. Can be taken loose and turned to have a better path to route the fuel line.

Remove the nipple that went to the old VRO pump and plug it off. Had to go to auto parts store and get a variety pack with 4 different size plugs to find the correct size and thread pitch.

Reconnect the hoses and was in business.

Took about 45 minutes total once I had all parts.

Forgot to to mention. Be sure to mix your fuel. 50:1.
