Great deal. I don't have much of an interior left. Threw the jump seats out, planned on fabbing something up. I have no idea what to do with the inside. Two captains seats for now.

I had a gas tank on one side and batteries on the other side of the doghouse. My blower was mounted into one of the vents and plastic hose hanging into the doghouse. A light switch turned it on from the back of the boat!

My suggestion for both of us is to pick a boat we like and steal all their good ideas. Copy someones stylish work. If you find something you like let me know. I'm open to any good ideas.

I agree we should do that. If I every get to were I can handle the 5 1/2 hour drive I might bring it up to Lake St. Clair to see how it does on an "ocean" (aka big lake). right now it hurts to drive 30 miles let alone 270. As for the front seats, I made back-back seats last year for the other boat and am going to use them for now. I think the bat is suppose to set in front of the starboard tank just by looking at the screw holes. I will probably make the jump seats myself also. As for the blower I was confused cause the hose was(is) attached to a vent on the starboard gunwell and the motor was hanging down. I mounted it to the right side vent on the stern and ran the hose down behind the engine. Mine is activated by a pull switch on the helm right between the nav and bilge pump pull switches. Thanks for the idea though. I'm still courious if anyone else here at STARCRAFT owns or has owned a V-180 from 1970.

I have a 21 foot tin can, but looks like you got a steal. Good looking boat and it is ocean worthy if the weather if ok. couple things I would check on that would be engine alignment, check splines for wear, grease the splines, replace outdrive waterpump, make sure all the fuel lines are in good shape, check to make sure the fuel tank does not have water in it, make sure it has a good water/fuel filter on it (spin on), Just a few items to check on an older boat.

If you never plan on removing the canvas top you can use a product called rubber roof coating, clean the canvas let dry and apply 2-3 coats. The canvas will soak this stuff up and seal it. I used in on my top and it worked great. But do not plan on being able to remove it and fold it up. My top has never been off and do not plan to take it off.
As you can see in the picture the stuff does not leak through and in the upper right hand corner you can see the white that is the rubber roof coating.
So far it seems to be holding up well. What happen to mine was I tightned the canvas and then it leaked horrible and I did not want to replace it.

Almost for got if it has a fiberglass fuel tank in it NEVER NEVER put Ethanol fuel in it. The Eth fuel will eat the fiberglass tank and disolve the resins.
Also the Eth fuel will eat rubber parts if they are old and not Eth resistant.
You might already know this but thought it was worth a reminder.

The V-180 was the predecessor to the American 18. Same hull. As a little historical context, the V-180/American series hulls were designed by Waltman B. Walters, a noted offshore racing hull designer. I think you'll find that the ride of your V-180 will reflect that pedigree. I have two Americans and both ride beautifully.

I thought your boat resembled the American hulls that Chinewalker refers to...but I knew he would be able to determine that much better than I since he owns two of them:)

Nice boat, congratulations:D

Thanks folks, I kind of thought that too after looking at some pics of them. When did Starcraft change them to American class

1972 was the first year they were referred to as Americans. Up to that point it was the V-Series.
