Hello all

Can someone explain to me the proper way to use OMC Select Trim and Trim Tabs together?

My Boat is a Rinell 267 Fly Bridge cruiser with a 351, 235 hp Ford. I have a pair of Bennett 9 x 12 TT’s.

Re: Using OMC Select trim and Trim Tabs

You say select trim. To me this means a pre 1985 OMC 800 series. This is also called a stringer. Your select trim raise and lower the front of the motor and also your outdrive.

Even if you have a later year you should adjust the same.

I set my motor trim to a center netural postion, Trim tabs up unless you need them to help get on plane. I then bring the boat up on plane at the speed I want to go. At this point I adjust my bennett trim tabs to trim the boat the way I want it to ride.

Next I adjust the motor trim for for best speed and rpms without touching the throttle. This will give you the best fuel mileage for the way you have the boat trimed. Now this may affect your speed some so may want to readjust your speed.

Since both the motor select trim and your bennett trim tabs interact and can both change boat trim may need to make small adjustments after change one.

Basic idea is use your trim tabs to adjust your ride then use motor trim to get best speed and fuel mileage.

Go to Bennett Marine wewb site. They have good directions on use of Tabs, and a cool simulator you can download to get the feel of using.
jim

I had to replace part of the Select Trim but I got the whole thing on ebay for $76 pump, motor, mounts, bar and plumbing

cuzner I have downloaded and played with Bennetts software, it is cool Thanks
