Using a hoist with an old boat?

I have an 82 model cobia 15', and am going this weekend to a marina where they have only a hoist, no ramp. I'm a little nervous about lifting the boat w/ the hooks, because it's so old. The boat is in good shape, not rotten, but i'm still apprehensive. Can anyone give me some advice?<br />-Jason

I'd think that they would use slings, underneath, not tie to your bow and stern eyes.

I asked some guys that go there regularly, they said they've never used slings. That would definitely be better. I can't find anything about hoisting from the eyes, I don't know if that will result in disaster.

That Cobia is built to take it if your lifting eyes are installed properly. Two U bolts though the transom and one in the bow will do it. Don't worry about it. Hanging from eyes was normal until recent years. I've hung several boats for the last 30 yrs and still hang a 20' pontoon boat by 4 corners (this one 9 yrs).

Thanks Bondo and BillP, that makes me feel better. The boat is in excellent shape, I only wondered b/c of the age. That makes me feel better. The transom even has a thick stainless reinforcement plate that my dad fabricated for it. Thanks for your input.

Check the lifting eyes for rust particularly in the areas you can't normally see. I had the bow eye break lifting a 27 1/2'er off my trailer. Fortunately it was only up a couple of inches.
