I'm fixing up an old 16' Mirro-Craft and need to get some controls for the engine. First time with a "real" boat. I'm looking to do this on the cheap side (which I know is almost impossible when you say the word "boat"). The engine is a 1977 25HP Evinrude. I measured from the control mount the the transom, across to the engine, back the the hookups, added 4 feet and got 18 feet total length required, sound about right? Can I go with "universal cables", or do I need a specific type? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
