posted September 12, 2002 05:21 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been Looking for a Used Sea Ray 270 Sundancer 1996 & 1997 . I have Looked at many sundancers and the two I am intrested in are, a 5.7 ( 454 ) FI Bravo 3 outdrive & a twin 4.3 v-6 Bravo 2 out drives. I need to know if anyone has had any PROBLEMS with these two Boats. Moter, outdrive,Electronics, Hull & so on. These Boats are going for around $50,000 and I want to make sure it will last me for the next 20 years or so. This will be my last MONEY PIT.

I am no expert, but it seems there are a lot of unhappy Bravo 3 owners out there due to galvanic corrosion problems on the outdrive. Good Luck.

Sundancer, Personally I would go with the twins. (I have an '87, 270 Sundancer with twins). The older boats with a single seemed to be sluggish. Not sure if the new boats act the same. Do a search for Bravo III's on this board and at BoatUS. You'll find there is a corrosion problem with dis-similar metals in the Bravo's. You can ask the same question on the Bulletin Board at BoatUS. Caroline is the moderator and has info on any complaints by BoatUS members regardiing hull & drives.

I'd select the newer twins. My last boat was a 26' with a single. A handfull in the wind when docking. My current boat has twins and you can't beat the handling and the safety factor of getting home on one. Friends with older Sea Rays with 4.3s are quite happy with the performance and reliability.

I am with Mike G. Go with the twins. Once you have run a good size boat with twins you will never go back. Better control in the wind and current and in a tight spot you can turn on a dime.

454 is a 7.4l engine.

I say go with the twins. better maneuverability and peace of mind.

454 is a 7.4l engine. make sure its not a 5.7 350 v8. then the answer is obvious.

I say go with the twins. better maneuverability and peace of mind.
