I've got the bug for a new(er) outboard. I can buy a new 25hp 2 cycle Nissan (manual) for $2,100 and get a 2 year factory warranty or I can get a used (2001) Mercury 25 hp (manual) for $1,800 and only a 60 day dealer's warranty. The Merc has been refurbished. I can get the Merc serviced locally but will have to drive about 30 miles for Nissan service.

What would you do?

sounds like a no brainer to me...If you treat the Nissan right you probably won't have to make the 30 mile drive to get any warranty work done on it. Guess it really depends on personal preference though. I own a 25 horse Merc but I'd go with the new Nissan if I had the money.

My $.02 worth, go Mercury, been building this motor for many years and the service is readily availible almost anywhere as are the parts. I bought a 2001 25HP Mercury electric new for $2550 so you can prob. find a good deal on a leftover. My old 1969 20HP Merc. ran strong the day I sold it 32 years later!
