I am considering buying a used 1987 chriscraft scorpion, or a 1990 chriscraft 225 ltd. These boats are in the 22-23 foot range. Can any one tell me if these are good boats or what to look out for?

Re: used chriscraft

Gary, I'm not an expert, but I own a 1982 ChrisCraft that I bought last yr and have learned a bit. One area to look at is the stringers, (frame of the boat) for rot, etc... This is hard to see sometimes thru the fiberglass coating. A core sample can be taken with a drill as the final litmus test. I have discovered that there are reputable dealers that will go over the boat and motor for approx 300 looking looking for problems. It would be money well spent. Also, I have learned that an older motor is always suspect. My boat is good in approx 4 ft seas at 5 seconds. Any rougher than that, it's time to go to the house. Got caught in a t-storm with 4 to 5 footers, took it well, but the cheeks were tight. Gud luc
