URGENT!! Volvo 3.0 valve oil seal - Don, hope you're around :P

Hi guys!

I have a very BIG problem. My friend has a 3.0 1996 volvo in his Wellcraft excel 21, and last year his head gasket began to leak oil on one side, so he decided to change it this year. He gave the boat to a car mechanic, and supplied a new head gasket. The guy tore the engine apart, and while he worked on a his head, he suggested to change the valve oil seals cause they looked bad to him. Now, the big trouble is that there is no part number / i can't see the part on dougrussell anywhere. It is the rubber seal that goes under the valve spring (part 20), don't know how to name it:

Well, i can find that part on the other engines (like 4.3, part no.6):

Why isn't there any part specification for a 3.0? I'm confused. Hope you can help me out cause we want to go boating next weekend and i would really like to help him out.

Item 16 (in your 3.0L link) is the only seals the 3.0L gets.

You're da man, DON! I ordered those seals (#16) from dougrussell, but the part the mechanic removed is bigger and made of rubber. As i said, he has removed it from under the valve spring. Here is a picture:

Did he screw up badly? Can he put this rubber part back? Or can we forget about the head?

Sorry about the quality of the picture, but i'm not at home currently and trying to save the problem.

He can put them back on if he want, or leave them off completely. They are not needed.

There are Different types of Valve Seals,........

The 1 in your picture is known as an Umbrella Seal.......

The 1s in the link above are O-ring seals........

You can use Either 1, but Not both........
