Urethane?

I recently bought a 17ft. Fish Master fiberglass boat, center console open skiff. I bought it from a Florida owner. It is a 1999 model and has sit in the sun to where the white with blue speckled top/inside finish is faded and a little chalky. My question is, since I dont care about the appearance, but just want a carefree finish on it, I was wondering if I could put a coat of urethane over the finish to seal it. Was wondering if the chemical reaction was ok. I was told the urethane would turn yellow, but dont care about that. I just want a good seal with durability. I was also thinking of mixing sand with it to have a non-slippery surface. It has the rough texture on it now, but still slick when wet, and I dont want carpet.
I will be using this on the Tennessee river as a multi-purpose boat and sometimes tossing large catfish in the bottom is the reason for no carpet.
Also, if anyone knows where I could find a custom cover for the boat. All the websites I have checked so far dont list that boat model.
Thanks for any info, especially on the finish.

Re: Urethane?

You should post thid in the restoration section of the board.

I would attempt to buff the finish back with compound and a buffer and you could be surprised. If you want to coat it your results will depend on your prep work. I have seen people in the past use Clear Coat for cars on boat decks and it seems to hold up. Yes you can sprinkle on or add in non-slip texture. There are alot of people that have had bed liner sprayed on for a real durable non slip finish. Xpress boats even offers new boats with that type finish.
