I have a spare upper gen 1 unit that I got seized up. Adter opening, the bearings are shot and the gears are partially rusted. Looking for gear set and the bearing, it is probably not worth it. I can get a fairly good used one on ebay.

If you buy a used one make sure that the plastic water pocket cover is not melted or the bolts are broken off.
Quite often I have rebuilt those and just glass bead blasted the gears. Replaced the bearings and seals or the yoke. Of course I had the shimming tools. Most times I ended up not having to change the shims since the gears were re used.

That rust is no longer 'surface', and as such has eaten through the surface hardening. I would expect significant and rapid wearing of the gears if you were to put them back into service. Call it 'experience', salvage what's possible (as spare parts), and drop the rest in the bin.

Thanks Chris. Looking up the prices for the bearing and gears. It's like 400-500 USD. Thats crazy and not worth it. Also gotta change the ujoints and the long shaft yoke since it is a short one
