upper shift shaft seal kit

I recently replaced the bushings and seals on the upper shift shaft and am wondering If I used the correct parts. The kit I used has 2 seals that are both installed below the upper (smaller ) brass bushing. There appears to be a kit that has a seal in the upper and lower bushing. Take a look at the link. Is this an upgrade to an older design?

The seals should be in the upper bushing, the lower is a bushing without a seal since there is water in the exhaust passages anyway. http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...sing-confusion Yes this is an upgrade used for Alpha 1 and (I think) early gen II outdrives.

Yes that's correct Terry,
The seals should be on the upper bushing. I'm still getting used to the names and location of things . The upgrade does look like a better design. And they are called out as suitable for gen 2 drives

Yep. Same kit works in MC-1, R, MR, Alpha One and Alpha One gen II. The upper bushing carries the 2 seals. Both seals face the same way, down. The lower bushing is a very loose fit, I have never bothered replacing one.
