Upper shift shaft removal???

I am working on a 2000 130hp Honda. I am needing to remove the upper shift shaft. Can I just pull this out? or is there a certain procedure I need to know about so that I don't break anything? Thanks

It just pulls out but there is a spring clip at the top of that shift shaft that should be replaced on diassembly that makes things a little harder to get apart.

I put vise grips on the shift shaft and used a mallet to knock it out. Note the position of the key-way on the spline for reinstallation. It can make it easier...
