The upper drive shaft in my 1985 stringer 400 appears to be maybe 75% worn down. It has not stripped out yet, but looks to be close as there is a lot of play in between the two shafts (water pump and drive shaft). My question is how hard is it to replace the drive shaft? It appears that you just remove the lock nut on the top and slide it out? Also when I reassemble it do I need to do anything special with the bearings?

I ordered a manual from ebay, but no luck it only covered the motor not the the drive. Please help!

Re: Upper Drive shaft replacement.

What sort of manual did you order that only covers the motor, and not the drive?

Seloc is what I have, covers up to 1985. Covers both drive and motor. Then they have one, 1986 and up.

OEM factory manual, covers both drive and motor. In my humble opinion OEM factory manual specific to year is alot better.

You will need the manual. Very specific instructions, and measurements. I don't think I can talk you thru this one I am deeply sorry.

Maybe someone with more knowledge and experience will undertake talking you thru it. Good luck.
