Have 1983 OMC 800 stringer. Replacing water pump shaft and upper drive shaft. Was able to pull gear and bearing assembly from drive shaft but have hit a snag with getting the drive shaft out. My manual says to support the gear casing on a soft surface and use a press to remove the shaft. Maybe I'm missing something here, but at the bottom of the casing there is a plate which seems to block the removal of the shaft. I think thats part of the water pump assembly. So, does that bottom part of the gear housing come apart somehow? I'm afraid that if I press the drive shaft down, it's going to bend the plate under it. Any help greatly appreciated.<br />Thanks, Fred
