Long story short...engine is a 305 Chevy straight inboard with the Mallory dual point ignition. I looked on-line and found the Pertronix Ingitor II for about $100. A friend who builds race car engines picked up a OEM GM unit for about the same money...according to him it is a better unit.

My question I guess is...is there a Marine vs.Automotive issue here? The GM unit has the coil inside the distributor cap and is a complete unit, shaft and all. I think these things are completely sealed with no chance of a spark coming from inside the distributor cap...is this correct? I hate not to buy it from him since he went to the trouble of getting it for me but,if it's not safe in a marine environment...I don't want it. Anybody know?
