Hello,
I have a 20 foot open deck unabout and has a 115 HP johnson 1994. I had work performed by Monty Racing a couple of years ago and it really didn't do much. I would like to know if a 150 V6 would "bolt on" to the lower gear case? Is this something that can be done or are there other solutions for more performance? I don't race the boat it's just when I pull an experienced skier he can almost stall the boat and just basically underpowered.

Thanks

What kind of work did Gordon do? What were you looking for as far as performance?

A 115 cf on a 20' boat may be kinda underpowered at best.

If you wanna go fast there are only a handfull of people to know and Monty is at the top of that list.

Yes you can put a V4 gearcase on a V6. That will get you the 2:1 ratio which should help with skiing. You can even put the V6 propshaft in the V4 gearcase so you can use the larger diameter props as long as they are over the hub style props.

Yes you can put a V6 cf powerhead on a V4 cf as long as you change the hood, pan, adapter plate, tuner and mid section.

Tell us more about your set up such as top rpm etc.

Re: upgrade to 150HP V6 from 115 ?

Dhadley,

Please don't get me wrong, Gordon at Monty did a very good job indeed. He was very professional. When I had the mods done I asked for the best top speed possible and the boat actually hit 47 mph! Very good for a 115 Johnson. I probably could beat most 140's on the lake. Now my needs have changed. I need to setup the boat for the best "water ski" setup. Top speed is not even on my list. Basically the problem is that even running with a 13 pitch 4 blade stainless prop, the boat just takes too long to get out of the water. It's not the prop. You can hear the engine is not performing at low RPM. Once I get it past 4000 rpm it hauls as.. Gordon probable set it up that way. I tried to reach gordon at his site but the website doesn't work. Is he still doing work? That's why I thought a V6 could be bolted in. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Montys number is 772-336-9508. Since he is familiar with the set up as far as jetting and so on he would be the best bet as far as advise.

Good luck!
