Upgrade carb

I got a 85 sea ray devile with a mercruiser 140 and would like to upgrade to a newer better carb. I have a slight hesitation at the same point every time I throttle up and it almost dies every time but once I get last that point it runs perfect. I think replacing the carb will fix it and I'm looking for a few more hp to. Any thoughts or suggestions?
What's a good carb to get?

Why don't you rebuild your carb. I would guess the accelerator pump is starting to fail, or there may be some water in your carb.
Replacing a carb is VERY expensive, and you DO NOT want to use an automotive carb on your boat. That would be a serious explosion/fire hazard.

What Don said! And besides it's allot cheaper and is as easy as building a model car just make sure you have carb soak and a manual follow it step by step and take your time.
