Update Garmin GPSMAP 741xs Chartplotter software

Don't seem to be able to update the software on a Garmin GPSMAP 741xs Chartplotter.
Downloaded the software update, twice, onto a new 32GB SD card using Garmin Express.
The first time I saved the download directly to the SD card.
The second time I saved the ZIP file to the SSD drive, unzipped it, and copied it to the SD card.
I put the mini SD card into the chartplotter BEFORE turning the unit on and nothing happened.
Next, I turned the unit on first and then installed the mini SD card.
The unit recognized the card but didn't find any files on it.
I have Garmin Express, Active Captain, got my iPhone to pair with the chartplotter, and had Helm working but not now.
What am I missing?

I always use my laptop to update

Is Garmin express asking you to format the SD?
When you downloaded to pc and unzipped did you use the copy2card.exe to transfer to SD

The instructions didn't say to transfer using copy2card, but Garmin help did.
We did that, put the SD card in the chart plotter, and discovered the unit did not need an upgrade even though Garmin said there was a software update available..

For someone looking for help with the same issue, here is the process to download to a PCs

Opening the download and running the wizard on the computer​

1. Once the download is complete, go to the location where the file was saved. Unzip to extract the downloaded zip file. Double-click the Copy2Card.exe to copy the files from the computer to the SD card
2. Power on the device and make sure all attached network devices are powered on as well
3. Insert the card into the card slot of the primary device. Select Update Software in the window that automatically displays.
