i promised you to update how the tstat asembly on my 1988 140 johnson is doing.

the block is a 1987 looper bored to std 1988 big bore.

the tstat cover,spring and tstat are from the 1993 suffix s.
blocked of the water passage from the adapter plate and got rid of all the hoses.

at idle its running 135 to 145 depending i gues on raw water temp. idle timing 8* atdc
wide open it actualy runs cooler than at idle.
Max advance 18*btdc
(If i set the tdc pointer corectly)

im prety happy with it.
plugs look nice and have a tanish coffee color and some carbon deposits but nothing to get woried about.
at coldstart motor warms up in about 3 to 5 minutes.

do you think i can hook up a waterpresure gauge from the water pasage that i blocked of at the adapter plate???

I think you can hook up a waterpressure gauge from the water passage at the adapter plate and that it will work well. That is where I have mine teed into the line running up to the control valve. The only thing is, I ran the gauge hose up to the top of the motor first, then out.
