I'm new to the forum and to boating, so if this has been asked please forgive me, I'm what I would say mechanically incline when it comes to cars but boats are totally new. I have a 1996 Bayliner Capri 1850 LS with the 3.0 it doesn't have a power steering pump on the engine so I'm assuming it doesn't have power steering. Is there anyway to upgrade? are there kits? Thanks all!!

It's all good, I typed that, looked at it for like 30 seconds cus I knew it wasn't right.
So I got the boat a month a go, the dog house thats on it is home made so there's no numbers or anything to go off of. I'm wondering if they made a 96 bayliner capri 1850 3.0 with power steering. I think if they did it would be a lot easier to upgrade it.

Going to try again. Mercruiser/OMC/Volvo-Penta/Other?

It isn't a question of Bayliner making that boat with power steering, it's did the drivetrain maker offer power steering. Power steering has a few parts - Pump/belt/hoses/cooler and the actuator. Some parts are common and some are unique like the actuator.

Wow I took what you said way too literal. It's a Mercruiser 3.0. 1996 if that matters at all

Never found a 3.0 that needed power steering. Make sure your steering cable or tiller pivot arent corroded

I'll double check em, but there's no power steering pump or any type of hydraulic actuator anywhere. I'll take some pictures, again I'm new to boats so everything helps and is appreciated.

Thats because the 3.0 is an entry level motor (doesnt support the added cost) and the motor output is low enough to not need power steering
