did not put a proper title because i had no idea how to word it...

when i slow down after running at 3-4000 rpms my rpms stay at 1500 for awile.

after putting into gear and then neutral it drops back down to 1000 rpms.

is that normal?

thanks

I would say no, that is not normal. Make sure that the butterflies in the carburetors are returning back to the idle position. Does the engine make any unusual noises when it is idling faster than normal?

My boat does that sometimes. Never figured it out. Seems to be better depending how I set my idle.

Check the quick-connect fitting at the engine end of the throttle cable. The center slug should be pulled out about 3/16 to 1/4 inch in neutral. This spring loaded quick-connect pre-loads the carb butterflies and snaps them fully closed in neutral. It also prevents the butterflies from opening until the engine is in gear making for smoother shifting.
