Ok so i have seen a lot of threads and have lived with the SX drive vibrating fairly hard on turn's left of right only...trimming is another world only at very high (high articulation) does the drive shrudder. So the drive is off and the knuckle's are as free and easy turning as one could hope for...that is not loaded so i cam across the below post and asked myself the question...could it be..i would just hate to throw away a good pair of joint's so i am asking for some input i really hate that damm vibration in the turn so what shall it be Toss out the old and in with the new????

The thing with our drive shaft bearing crosses (aka U-joints) is that when under power (for the majority of the time), we are pretty much nagivating straight forward.
This places the drive shaft geometry in a fairly straight alignment.
Unlike the automotive counterpart, there is minimal articulation.

What this means, is that the bearing "cap" and bearing cross "trunion" are contacting more so in the same location....... rather than a rolling needle bearing pattern where there is more articulation.
What we get is a wear groove that actually accelerates the wearing out of our bearing crosses.

They may still feel rather smooth, but may not be in good working order.
This is very likely the source of your vibration.
For the cost of replacement, it becomes the thing to do.

By the way the gimbal and the alignment are a true and smooth as a one could hope for. One note these knuckles are perma lube....Dont like that aspect there 14 yrs old.

Could be. I have seen a universal joint from a 280 drive, that had run without grease for some time. Here it was clearly, that the small rollers in the bearing cups had pressed/grinded small grooves in the spider. There was off course a terrible rumble from this, when turning. I guess that grease just slows this process down.

I believe my 95 has grease zerks. I grease them every year. Mine are pretty smooth at 20 years old. :D

Well this thread took a few turn's but ive finally have rid myself of the low speed rumble on hard turn's. at first i thought it was a improper assy process but learned that was not the issue. It seems when Volvo first came up with the yoke cv joint that used some very heavy duty ujoint's they are quite beefy and greasless. I changed them out a while ago actually in 2007 it's a long story but the jist of it is as follows Using those heavy duty knuckles they also balanced the driveline after it was assembled literally machining into balance, Now it you even disassemble them and dont put them back together exactly like they were assembled you will get some shimmy..put the new lighter weight knuckles in and that shimmy becomes pronounced. Now i have a new drive line assy and the vibration is gone..

A bit of aggravation but it is gone. Now on to bigger fish new tbi injectors...Try to find the original part number its ridiculous..but i believe there originally 94/95 high pressure 454 46lb injectors.....;)

Are you saying you went with the OEM (heavy duty)as you call it

...No went with a whole new drive line, the old HD's are no longer available and if they were there would be a high possibility they would not balance in the old assy..They actually assembled the drive line and then balanced it not with weights but machined down the unit.
