Unsold 1996 Honda 90hp in box - Problem?

Hello all, <br /><br />A dealer has an unsold 1996 Honda 90hp in the box. Before I call him, I was wondering if anyone knew of potential problems with earlier Honda 90 four strokes.<br /><br />Thanks to all!

being a honda dealership, i know that the motors are shipped WITHOUT engine oil!!this is a seven year old engine-check out the conditions it was stored under-inside/outside/heated/ac????make sure you can still get FULL factory warranty!!

the only service bulletins i could find concerned 75 & 90hp stalling(minor adjustments) and improper mounting bolt templates.we've only been a honda dealer for 1 1/2 years so someone thats been honda for a while should know more.

maillon,<br /><br />The engine is probably fine. Most outboards are pretty well "pickled" before they are packaged.<br /><br />Two things I would do.<br /><br />1. Insist on a new water pump impeller.<br /><br />2. Go for a test run, or at least a run in the test tank, under load, with a test prop.<br /><br />If the warranty is good, I wouldn't have any reservations about it.

I would first do a little digging ,and find out why this thing has been in the crate for so long.Something smells fishy.Since 96 ,the gearcase has changed from a farmed out Merc unit to their own gearcase.Carbs are now compliant with various emission regulations.So there has been some tweaking.Doe,s that mean that this engine is a lousy deal? Chances are not.
