Hello,
I have a recently purchased 1999 Ranger with a Mercury Optimax 225. I started having problems with the motor bogging down and stalling when attempting to accelerate/get on plane. I have located what appears to be a some kind of sensor on the front side of the motor (the side that faces the boat itself. It looks like one of the two wires that are connected to the sensor have come come lose. The wire cannot be reconnected, it looks like the sensor must be replaced. Not sure if this would cause the issue I am having, but it needs to be repaired either way. Any ideas on what this part is and if the lose wire might cause the problem I having. I am trying to avoid taking the boat back to the shop again. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Always best to list serial number
Has 148* on it, might it be a temp sensor

Looks like it’s supposed to be fitted to a tank or similar. Oil injection tank ?
