Sunday’s United Rentals Work United 500 NASCAR Cup Series event marks the 53rd race hosted by Phoenix Raceway in the series’ history. The 1-mile, low-banked tri-oval located in Avondale, Arizona has an asphalt racing surface with 8 degrees of banking in turns one and two, 11 degrees in turns three and four, and 3 degrees on the backstretch. The track first opened in 1964, with the Cup Series holding its inaugural Cup Series race in 1988 with Alan Kulwicki as the winner.

I am not sure why it is a "500" because it is 312 laps around the 1 mile track!?!?!? I guess because it is 500 kilometers! Chase Briscoe was last year's winner.

Saturday 2:05 is the qualifying for the Cup race. The Xfinity race is at 4:30.
Sunday's race start is at 3:30 and will be broadcast on Fox. I will be on the road and will miss another race ...

There is so much more than just going around in circles … tire wear and strategy, pit timing, plus the skill of driving in bumper to bumper traffic at those speeds, which line (high or low) is faster for a certain car’s set-up… it can be fascinating for a car guy/gear head.
